Chiharu Shiota

Chiharu Shiota (b. 1972, Japan) is an internationally-acclaimed artist, who interweaves materiality and the psychic perception of the space to explore ideas around the body and flesh, as well as personal narratives that engage with memory, territory, and alienation. Known for her large-scale thread installations that include a variety of common objects and external memorabilia, her oeuvre also spans drawing, sculpture, photography and videos. Shiota’s work has been exhibited extensively worldwide, including only recently solo shows at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka; Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, Istanbul; and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles.
